CAROLINE KEARNEY
STUDIO 55

Caroline became a quilter by accident.  In 1990, she saw a doll her friend, Liz, had made.  In order to take an upcoming Amish doll class offered by the quilt guild, Caroline had to be a quilt guild member.  She joined, made the doll, and began going to quilt guild meetings.  She signed up for quick-piecing and machine-quilting classes and was hooked!

Born in Mannheim, Germany, Caroline emigrated to the U.S. in 1962.  She spent five years as a "mothers helper", met and married Bob, became a citizen, and got a job as an accountant at a major European phamaceutical outfit.  She was a systems analyst, became treasurer, and served on the Board of Directors of that firm.  It was then that her life took a major turn...she entered the world of quiltmaking.

Caroline is now a full-time quilter, with the focus on machine performance.  She makes quilts on commission, offers a basting and machine-quilting service and teaches at the Country Quilter in Somers, NY.  She currently has twenty patterns for commercial distribution under a "Studio 55" label. Caroline's designs for Wamsutta, a fabric manufacturer, have been published in Crafts & Crochet magazine, published by Country Accents.  She also received credit in Great Patchwork: Working with Squares and Rectangles, published by Better Homes & Gardens, for piecing and quilting a quilt by Mimi Shimmin. Additionally she has designed quilts for Timeless Treasures for some of their fabric lines.

Caroline & Bob vend at 20 + major quilt shows from Vermont to Virginia. They live in Stormville, NY together with their cat Quincy at 639 Leetown Road, NY 12582 and can be reached at 845-226-7608 and cbstudio55@optonline.net

The preperational work is shared by the three of them, Quincy supervises and inspects, Caroline designs, makes and quilts the quilts, Bob does all the cutting of fabrics, prints and packages the patterns and kits. He is the electrical wizzard during set-up at quilt shows in addition to being moral support for Caroline.
